My name is Graysen and I am 12 years old going into 7th grade. I have been volunteering at the Funny Farm Animal Rescue Mays Landing, New Jersey for over 6 years. They have all animals from 250+ cats and kittens to 11 dogs as well as 10 horses and 2 skunks. Over all they have 600+ animals and all of which are rescues. I have done many things there. I have scooped poop, fed the animals, socialized kittens so they are ready for adoption, given tours, taken donations, worked the front gate, fed newborn baby bulls, worked at the snack bar, fed 3 megaesophagus dogs, changed the animals’ waters and been a councillor almost 15 times at their summer camp. My favorite animal there is Yogi, a bull. He and his brother Boo were dropped off in the summer a few years ago when a college student was driving past a slaughter house and saw them. They were a day old, separated from their mother at birth, never fed and their umbilical cords were still attached. After trying many rescues the only one that he found that was willing to take them was the Funny Farm. Because they were so little they had to have milk and because there was no mom other volunteers and I got to feed them out of a bottle. Eventually Boo got adopted by the farms vet and now lives on a ton of land an Yogi still lives on the Funny Farm with another steer named T-Bone (yes after the steak, that’s what he was going to become until the family who had him got attached and couldn’t slaughter him but also had no land to keep him on.) I have over 1,000 hours of volunteer work there and it is such an amazing place and I am so lucky to have found it and be able to help.
