Attending the Jacksonville Zoo Camp

Do you want to be a veterinarian? Are you asking yourself “Is there anything I can do now to make sure I become a veterinarian when I get older?” If so, this series of articles is for you. This article explores the Jacksonville Zoo Camp.

​About the Zoo Camp

The Jacksonville Zoo Camp is a great way to get face-to-face with animals you usually can only see at a distance. Whether in the classroom or exploring the park, campers get to see, and sometimes touch, some really amazing animals. In a typical week, zoo camp members feed giraffes, pet a chinchilla, get up close to a rhinoceros, or touch a snake. More importantly, real experts introduce campers to the science of these animals.

Zoo educators are with campers the entire day. Whether they are in the classroom or exploring the beautiful zoo grounds, these educators make certain that every animal experience is packed with interesting information about animals and their habitats. In addition, many visits around the park include talks by zookeepers who work with the animals every day and have even more to share about each animal’s behavior and habits.

The camp has sessions for most every age of camper. If you are a seventh grader, you’ll find just as many options as someone in the fourth grade. More importantly, the zoo places future veterinarians in different age groups so you’ll interact with other animal lovers and aspiring vets that are the same age as you.

Why Attend Zoo Camp

If you area future veterinarian age 9-13, you need to start learning the science of animals and getting animal experience as soon as you can. The Jacksonville Zoo camp is a one of the best ways to do both.

The camps at the Jacksonville Zoo give aspiring veterinarians a way to explore the science of animals in a fun, hands-on way. Science doesn’t just live in the classroom and educators at the Jacksonville Zoo understand this. Many of their activities and learning experiences occur on the zoo grounds.

Each day you are also interacting with other future veterinarians that share your passion for animals. In addition to sharing fun times with other animals lovers, campers also here what other aspiring veterinarians are doing to explore their passion. It is a great place to make friends!!
